Stupid drummer jokes may continue to flourish (scroll down for five whoppers) but plenty of rock and roll sticksmen are having the last laugh.  Website Celebrity Net Worth has compiled a list of the 30 richest drummers and man oh man, the figures are staggering.

Topping the list – which was compiled using publicly available data like salaries, real estate holdings, divorces, record sales, royalties, endorsements and so on – is Beatles time-keeper Ringo Starr with an estimated worth of $300 million.

If you’ve ever found yourself at a party surrounded by people wearing ironic T-shirts and blabbing smugly about some impossibly obscure indie group while sipping a craft beer, you have stumbled across the Pitchfork nation, devotees of the music blog that serves as self-appointed mouthpiece for what’s cool.

Pitchfork’s relentlessly “new” edge is tiring for the average music fan trying to keep up, and it’s positively infuriating for Smashing Pumpkins honcho Billy Corgan, who has said stars like Kurt Cobain, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Hole's Courtney Love wouldn’t happen today because of Pitchfork’s  ironically homogenizing effect on the alternative music scene.

Its release date remains TBD but we cannot WAIT for the Dave Grohl-helmed documentary on recording studio Sound City with its cast including (but not limited to) Trent Reznor, Tom Petty, Mick Fleetwood, John Fogerty and Butch Vig. A new trailer for the film featuring commentary from all those mentioned dials up the excitement; check it out below.

This is neat. Foo Fighters honcho and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl is set to be feted by his hometown of Warren, Ohio this weekend with the unveiling of two 900-pound drumsticks.

I guess keys to the city was just too passé for the guy who made music videos fun again.

Last week we confirmed that Rolling Stones mainman Mick Jagger is set to host the season finale of Saturday Night Live, serving as both host and musical guest for the very first time. Now word is circulating that Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire are also on tap to play the May 19 episode of comedy show and that an all-star jam might be in the cards.

He’s been dead almost two decades (and isn’t that staggering to consider), yet Kurt Cobain is back in the news lately. Footage of late Nirvana singer/songwriter chiming in with wife Courtney Love of Hole as she meanders through the unreleased track “Stinking Of You” has surfaced online – check it out below.

The potential that died with Kurt Cobain in April 1994 is in sharp focus once again with the dramatic revelation that the Nirvana singer/songwriter had been working on a solo record, and had even cut some demos, at the time of his passing. This according to former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson, who has been doing the press rounds promoting his just-released book of poetry and essays, Letters to Kurt.

Sounding for all the world like the voice of reason in a hailstorm of crazy, Frances Bean Cobain has fired back at mom Courtney Love and her disturbing allegations, delivered by Twitter, that Dave Grohl - former Nirvana band mate of Frances’s dad Kurt Cobain - had put the moves on her.

There is wildly unhinged, and then there is Courtney Love. As we do with modern art, we try our darndest to keep an open mind – we really do – but she invariably, routinely flies off the deep end and we are forced to retrench. Her latest head-scratcher: a series of Tweets apparently accusing former Nirvana drummer, Foo Fighters honcho Dave Grohl, 43, of hitting on Love’s 19-year-old daughter Frances Bean Cobain

Ooh, this has the potential to be interesting in a “you’re dead at recess” sort of way. Actor and Tenacious D honcho Jack Black has weighed in on Courtney Love’s recent slam of the Muppets by calling her comments “absurd, absurd, absurd.”
