For mainstream music fans, his name might not ring a bell. But good looks are truly universal – and worth celebrating – so permit us to tip our caps to Kele Okereke, fetching vocalist/guitarist with Britain’s Bloc Party, named 2012’s sexiest man in indie rock by taste-making New York lifestyle website Nerve.com.
Yes, Bloc Party, darlings of the NME and spiritual cousins to The Smiths, Joy Division, Mogwai and Sonic Youth. Of the decision to crown Okereke this year’s chief hunk among the tattoo and ironic T-shirt set, Nerve writes:
“When Bloc Party's long-awaited fourth album arrives later this year, it will no doubt be greeted with a resurgence of Tumblr and Pinterest-related interest in Kele Okereke. This will be based largely on his voice and musical talents, but also on his megawatt, insanely endearing smile. We could power an amusement park with this man's face.”
Indeed-y. The Top 10 also includes Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem, Yeasayer's Anand Wilder and Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos. Of the above-mentioned forthcoming Bloc Party album titled Four – helmed by Death Cab for Cutie and Mars Volta producer Alex Newport, for those taking notes – it drops next month.
