What if something akin to a winning lottery ticket was sitting idle up in your attic just waiting to be discovered? How cool would that be? You might want to dust off some old records because you could be sitting on a gold mine.

New York radio station WCBS-FM along with L.A.'s K-EARTH have compiled a list of the rarest and therefore most valuable records and singles ever. Topping the list is Bob Dylan, followed closely by the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and an obscure movie soundtrack from 1954.

The original pressing of Dylan‘s second album, 1963's The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, apparently contains the protest song, ‘Talkin’ John Birch Society Blues.’ The version was recalled on the eve of its release after Columbia Records feared litigation from the extremist right-wing group over the lyrics.

Three other songs, ‘Rambling Gambling Willie,’ ‘Rocks and Gravel’ and ‘Let Me Die in My Footsteps’ were also removed. Columbia believed they had destroyed all copies, but several managed to escape and are now worth up to $20,000.

Next on the list at a similarly staggering $18,000 is the picture sleeve of the Rolling Stones 1968 single, ‘Street Fighting Man.’ The photographs on the sleeve depicts Los Angeles cops beating protestors during the 1966 Sunset Strip riots. The band’s label pulled the sleeve to avoid controversy.

Number three is Presley's 1957 Christmas album featuring a specialty red vinyl disc which could fetch $18,000. It's followed, improbably, by RCA's the Caine Mutiny soundtrack; the platter from actor Humphrey Bogart’s 1954 WWII film is estimated to be worth up to $10,000.

Also on the list: Bruce Springsteen, the Supremes, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, the Byrds and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Suddenly, flipping through crates of dusty, dog-eared records at neighborhood garage sales suddenly seems like a worthwhile pursuit. Check out the full list here.

What's old is new again! Prices are outstanding...but if you were lucky enough to have one of these where would anyone market them?

The Beatles Sgt Pepper record exec alt sleeve is actually well at the top of this list. Ditto for first state sealed butcher covers. It's easy to see why a NY radio station would put a "local artist" at the top of this heap though. NY is so full of itself.

every album Elvis ever released should be at the top of the list and the rest of them can follow.
