Sad news out of Ireland as U2 guitarist the Edge mourns the death of his mother, Gwenda Evans, who passed away earlier this week after a short illness.
The Irish Independent reports that Bono and wife Ali Hewson met the Edge at Dublin’s Dylan Hotel, where the grieving musician was spotted entering with a Bible. It’s believed that he was planning on selecting scriptures to be read during his mother’s service, which is expected to take place later this week.
A U2 spokesperson told the paper that Gwenda Evans’ funeral would be “an entirely private affair.”
Mrs. Evans was born in Wales and moved with her husband Garvin to Ireland in the 1960s. When Garvin was transferred from London to run a Dublin factory, Gwenda enjoyed a career as a primary school teacher. Along with her son David (aka the Edge), the couple had a son Richard and a daughter Jill.
Got to make this statement. My parents died very young (in their 50's) by a drunk driver. I get so upset when I see kids and also friends of my age dissing and pulling down their parent. I always say to them you are SO lucky to have them. The young punks will realize when they get older, there will be no Sunday dinners, celebrating holidays, etc. I'm talking about loving parents of course - not ones that have caused abuse.
A mothers love... a sons love...a bond...a link...some call it un or natural... some just have it...some want to break it...and others just let it be...
Condolences to David.
