McCartney told BBC Radio 5: "I've been booked," adding that he would be "closing the opening," reports Britain’s the Guardian.
The full lineup for the opening ceremony at the Olympic Park in Stratford on July 27 has yet to be announced, but reports suggest it will have an "Isles of Wonder" theme. It will be staged by film director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), who is the event's artistic director.
As the Guardian notes, a cast of 15,000 will take part in the Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies, in front of an estimated global audience of four billion. Wow. Stay tuned for more bold-face names to be announced.
Meanwhile, the Beatles were named the UK's most successful singles chart act of the last 60 years, in a poll conducted by Radio 2 to note the biggest chart stars of the Queen's reign.
