Have you heard of the phrase "codger dodger?" That's what some people call women who avoid marrying much older men so they don't end up as unpaid caretakers when their husbands descend into ill health.
So what do we call someone who leaps at precisely that opportunity? We'll have to come up with something in advance of the nuptials between Gregg Allman and his 24-year-old bride-to-be, Shannon.
News of the engagement surfaced Tuesday evening when the legendary 64-year-old Southern-fried rocker and Allman Brothers alum (and ex-husband to Cher) sat opposite CNN chat show host Piers Morgan to discuss his new memoir, My Cross to Bear. The camera panned to his beautiful young fiancée in the audience when Allman, looking somewhat sheepish, admitted this will be his seventh trip down the aisle.
When asked how Shannon (just Shannon) felt about becoming his seventh wife, Allman firmly but politely replied, “That’s not what she’s becoming. She’s becoming wife No. 1. I don’t have a wife, I haven’t had one for years.”
He also explained this go-round would be different because, “This time, I am really in love,” and then estimated that he had been in love with only two of his previous wives and even then, “They didn’t reciprocate.”
Morgan then fired back with a highly amusing quote, reminding Allman he had once described Cher – whom Allman married in 1975 and divorced in 1979, a union which produced son Elijah Blue – by saying, "she smells the way I would imagine a mermaid smelled... I've never smelled it since and I'll never forget it."
Added Morgan: "Have you ever smelled a mermaid? Do you have anything to base this on? I would think that is a compliment right?"
Allman, laughing, replied, "Now that would be a scoop."
Hold on now 40 years difference is a lot more than 18 years. JLo is only old enough to be her boys mama Gregg is old enough to be this girls gampa. That is a little more gross isn't it??
You go for it Gregg. I saw the interview and the thing that struck me the most was when Gregg said that drugs and booze are "a lie". I really think that he has suffered enough through the years, even though it may well be self inflicted. It's time for some peace and love, I hope Gregg and Shannon will be very happy.
My brother just got married last week. He is 45 not rich and a good guy. His new wife is 24 and she is great. believe me after being with them for more than 5 minutes it`s easy to tell they are perfect for each other.
Good for him...Guys his age can only dream of a foxy twenty-something.
As for Jennifer Lopez,I'd say the same of her but her BF is certainly nothing special to look at...I'd say that HE is the lucky one in that relationship.
Bitter old ladies. Wow. They couldnt find anyone reach enought to marry them so they gonna take it out on her. Maybe she rocked his world in the bedroom and maybe thats worth all the money he has to him. Why every guy is ok with that but women have all the isues. Oh boy
Greg looks like he is very ill and like he said on the show he shouldn't even be there. I hope on her part it is true love and not a gold digger. I wish them both the best and for Greg to get well soon.
I do like the way he defended her honor, he sounds like a good guy. Justin, what planet have you been living on? Women who are over the age of 30 or older than their partners are called Cougars. That's a pretty distasteful term, I don't see men being labelled and in case you haven't noticed J-Lo has had a lot of negative comments about her younger boyfriend. Unless you are like the late Anna Nicole Smith, a stripper who married an 85-yr-old man in a wheelchair then no one has the right to judge.
Just to add to the other people who have made positive remarks about May/December romance, my friend was married to her much older husband for 25 years before he died, no golddigging there. Bo and John Derek were married for a very long time before his death, so lets not be so quick to judge.
Can you say Gold Digger? Perhaps she will be disappointed like the kid who married old Senator Strom Thurmond. That ol' boy lived another 20 years on her!!!
I'm guessing this young girl is looking for security first and if it includes love, then BONUS!! If she looks after him in and out of bed and they really get on, good for them. If she gets a big chunk, assuming he dies first, I'm sure he'll think it was worth it. No one lives forever!!!

BLECK is all I can say. Being with someone that much older than me seems obscene. I really don't get it. I also don't agree with Cougars as I find that preverse as well. Dating someone who could be your son - give me a break. I have someone my own age and we have built a history behind us and are building a future together ahead of us. Our past is built on many things - joy, sadness at times even anger. But our shared past is what gives us a stronger future. What can she build with a man old enough to be her grandpa that already has a long history that doesn't include her. Plus his history will effect their future whether she likes or not. Also I just can't even imagine going to bed with someone that old and having it be enjoyable in the least. I could do it if I were pretty tank but it literally makes me feel ill to think of a beautiful young woman servicing this old saggy man (and you know what I mean). But....hey.....if that's what you need that's what you need. It's just not for me.
For me men (or women)like this are nothing but exploiting a young person that is not even fully developed yet. The developement into adulthood is not even complete until the age of 24. We have seen this over & over throughtout history & I think it is pathetic and shows how insecure these individuals are that they feed off of the most vulnerable in our society. They go after much younger ages because no one that is fully developed psychologically & has their "act" together would have them or keep them. These young persons even if they are 24...do not have enough experience at that age to recognize that they are nothing more than prey to people with "overindulged, narcisistic ego's"! I say to the "older" adults....grown the F up!
It's okay when JLo robs the cradle, but when this guy does it's bad?
I think men are starting to get the double standard now, not women..
