It seems like a match made in heaven: guitar god and former White Stripe/Raconteur Jack White is set to write, produce and perform the soundtrack to Disney's upcoming film adaptation of onetime TV show The Lone Ranger, which stars White's doppelganger Johnny Depp as Tonto to Armie Hammer’s masked crime fighter.

This project just seems to get cooler by the second.

The news, reported by Britain's NME, comes just as White’s hotly anticipated solo debut Blunderbuss hits the globe. Astute readers will note this isn’t White’s first foray into film: he had a small role in the 2003 film Cold Mountain, penning several songs for the soundtrack and singing traditional American folk songs such as 'Wayfaring Stranger'.

White also co-wrote and performed the song 'Another Way to Die' with Alicia Keys for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.

The Lone Ranger - due in 2013 and also starring Helena Bonham Carter - is directed by Gore Verbinski who has worked with Depp on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and also in the CGI bonanza Rango.

"Jack's an amazing songwriter with a unique style," producer Jerry Bruckheimer is quoted telling Variety in what must rank as the most banal quote ever recorded.

"We're all very excited to have him on board." Depp meanwhile, is said to be "thrilled" that White will write the soundtrack; smart money says the guitar-slinging musician will be looking to pick up tips from the master at some point during the project.
