In an interview with the Toronto Sun (he’s in town as part of music industry festival and conference Canadian Music Week), Slash throws water on the possibility though he does call the induction "an honour" and confirms he will attend.
"Either it hasn't hit me yet or maybe it's been so long since I had anything to do with Guns N' Roses that I just don't really get it," the 46-year-old says on the cusp of his new album’s release (it’s called Apocalyptic Love) on May 22.
"And we're not playing. I would imagine that they asked us to play but I know that we're not playing." So far, original bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler have also confirmed they will show up April 14 when GN’R joins the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys and others for the event.
So what’ll they do… stand around nodding their heads while avoiding small talk with Axl Rose? Sigh. Considering the smack Rose has talked about Slash over the years, maybe we fans can re-channel our hopes and pray for a fist-fight. That’d be fun to watch!
Meantime, Slash is set to perform locally at the Phoenix Friday ahead of a May tour in the U.S. with a Canadian theatre trek expected in July.
"It's actually a mirror of the show that we did in L.A. at the Roxy when we first started that 2010 tour," he offers. "As long as we're tight, you know? We had a couple of days' rehearsal."
