During last fall’s Toronto International Film Festival, where music-themed documentaries were so abundant they constituted a full-fledged trend (see films about U2, Neil Young, Paul Williams, Paul McCartney), director Cameron Crowe’s outstanding Pearl Jam Twenty won raves.

Indeed, the film – part love letter, part warts-and-all glimpse at a band able to survive 20 years together despite crazy odds, hence the title – managed to win over even casual Pearl Jam fans … like me (review here).

For Pearl Jam die-hards – or fans of director Crowe (see Almost Famous, Say Anything, Jerry Maguire) - it’s an absolute must-see. And it’s getting its Canadian broadcast premiere tonight (Friday, January 27) at 7:30 pm on MuchMore, repeating Saturday at 2 pm and 6:30 pm.

Check out the trailer below and be sure to catch the film tonight. And stick around afterward: that’s when the final episode in filmmaker Sam Dunn’s excellent documentary series Metal Evolution airs, beginning at 10 pm. Tonight’s subject – prog metal. Yeah, have fun!

I saw it on PBS a few weeks back... it was awesome. But I am a PJ fan so, I can't really say if 'casual' fans will care that much or not.
