One of the nicest things about the holiday season is the altruism is prompts. The latest do-gooder on our radar: Kid Rock, who is handing out 1,200 $25 gift cards to the needy in Detroit. That adds up to a donation of $30,000… a generous sum for an individual.

According to an item at CBS 12 Action News, the gift cards – which can be redeemed at U.S. supermarket chain Meijer for food items and hampers - will be distributed to area radio stations and passed along to struggling families. The first cards were made available on Wednesday.

What’s more, CBS 12 notes it’s not the first time the Michigan-reared rap/rocker has shown his generous side around the holidays; last year, Kid Rock (who turned 40 this year) donated 1,000 meals in the same way.

And Australia’s Noise 11 quotes a press release from the Kid Rock camp stating: “this is not the last charitable act Kid Rock has up his sleeve; a major announcement is being planned for early next year which will once again focus on Detroit.”

Cool. Stay tuned.
